The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team was unable to shake off a sluggish start as visiting SUNY Cortland pounded the Bears inside and ran to an 81-50 victory at Jerry Welsh Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Dragons (14-9 overall, 10-6 SUNYAC) sprinted to a 12-0 lead from the onset with two layups and a pair of free throws from Grace Williamson, a jumper by Caysea Cohen and two layups from Megan Touhey.

The Bears (6-16 overall, 4-11 SUNYAC) went to the long distance game to try to get back into it. 

And the comeback began to mount when junior guard Carli Reynolds (Indian Lake, N.Y. / Indian Lake) made a 3-pointer, junior Colleen McNamara (Guelph, Ontario / Our Lady of Lourdes) knocked down two more treys and senior forward Jessica Kouzan (Webster, N.Y. / Webster-Schroeder) rung another up from long range to get the Bears within six points at 20-14 with 8:58 left in the first half. 

Kouzan, who had just surpassed Maureen Curley for sixth place all-time in Bears' program scoring a day earlier with her 21-point performance, went for 25 points on Saturday on 8-of-17 shooting including a season-high 7-of-12 from 3-point range. 

McNamara was the only other Bear to reach double digit in scoring with 10 points. The team shot just 25 percent from the floor and trailed 34-24 at the break.

Cortland held significant advantages down low with a 47-30 rebounding edge and 32-4 advantage for points in the paint.  The Red Dragons also shot 51 percent from the field.

Touhey finished with a team-high 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting while Erin Wolstenholme added 15 and Williamson had 14 points. 

Potsdam will be home in action against Plattsburgh on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
