DAY 2 RESULTS

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Sophomore captain Katherine Steeves (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) finished fifth in the 200 Individual Medley on Day 2 of the SUNYAC Championships in Buffalo. The SUNY Potsdam women's swimming team earned the SUNYAC Team Academic Achievement Award with the conference's highest GPA. Senior Finn Boyle (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) led the Bears men, earning a spot in the 500 Freestyle B Finals.
 
Steeves finished fifth in the 200 IM preliminaries with a time of 2:18.93. The performance qualified her for the A Finals, where she was also fifth in 2:17.08. In the 500 Freestyle preliminaries, junior Leo Plaza (Hudson, N.Y./Taconic Hills) (5:57.38) and senior captain Kathryn Nelson (Riverside, R.I./St. Mary Academy – Bay View) (6:20.77) were 22nd and 26th, respectively. The Bears had eight participants in the 50 Freestyle. Junior Madison Mitchell (Canton, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams) (27.17), sophomore Amelia Bohr (Unionville, N.Y./Minisink Valley) (28.67), freshman Delyanie Jessie (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) (28.75), junior Allie Shoen (Owego, N.Y./Owego) (29.53), freshman Emma Montgomery (Winthrop, N.Y./St. Lawrence Central) (30.36), junior Nataelee Mullen (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) (31.51), junior Leah-Kristine Hunt (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) (33.90) and freshman Julie Lamantia (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) (34.52) finished 22nd, 28th, 29th, 33rd, 35th, 38th, 42nd and 43rd in order.  Steeves, Plaza, Jessie and Mitchell teamed up to finish sixth in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:49.16. The Bears second team of Nelson, Bohr, Mullen and Montgomery were 16th in 2:00.60.
 
Boyle was 10th in the Men's 500 Freestyle with a time of 4:56.03 to reach the B Finals. In the B Finals, he was 13th overall in 4:55.74. Freshman Demetrio Schiavone (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland) was 25th in the preliminaries of the same event in 5:27.90. In the 200 IM, senior captain Zach DeLorme (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) finished 21st with a time of 2:14.74. Freshman Jackson Korn (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) placed 33rd (25.13) in the 50 Freestyle, while juniors Tyler Schmitt (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) (25.97) and Matthew Bridge (Theresa, N.Y./Indian River) (26.80) were 36th and 37th and senior Tyler Tice (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) (29.18) finished 40th. The 200 Freestyle relay team of Boyle, DeLorme, Schmitt and Korn finished seventh in 1:36.90.
 
Day 3 action begins at 10 a.m. with the Men's 400 Individual Medley preliminaries.
