Four Bears women’s swimmers earn Academic All-District honors

POTSDAM, N.Y.—Four SUNY Potsdam women's swimmers have been named to the College Sports Communicators Swimming and Diving Academic All-District team. The team is selected by CSC member directors of athletic communications to recognize the nation's top student athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom.
 
To be eligible for this honor, swimmers need to be at least a sophomore, maintain at least a 3.5 GPA and compete in 75 percent or more of their meets or finish top eight at their conference meet.
 
Junior Leah-Kristine Hunt (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) swam in nine of the Bears' 10 meets this season. The Political Science major swam the 50 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke and 100 Freestyle for Potsdam this year as well as being a member of the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relay and 200 Medley Relay teams.
 
Junior Nataelee Mullen (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) has earned a spot on the academic all-district team for the second straight year. The Early Childhood Education major competed in nine meets this winter. She swam the 50 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly, 100 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle. Mullen was a part of the 200 Freestyle, 400 Freestyle, 800 Freestyle, 200 Medley and 400 Medley Relay teams.
 
Junior Leo Plaza (Hudson, N.Y./Taconic Hills) represented the Bears in every meet this season. The Psychology major was a B Finalist in the 100 Butterfly and 200 Backstroke at the SUNYAC Championships in February. During the season, they also swam the 100 Freestyle, 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle, while being a part of the 400 Freestyle Relay, 800 Freestyle Relay, 200 Medley Relay and 400 Medley Relay teams.
 
Sophomore captain Katherine Steeves (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) had a breakout season for the Bears. She picked up eight individual victories during the year and just missed All-SUNYAC status at the championships with fourth place finishes in the 100 and 200 Butterfly as well as a fifth place finish in the 200 Individual Medley. The Exercise Science major swam in every meet this season. In addition to the previously mentioned events, Steeves also competed in the 100 Breaststroke and 200 Butterfly and was part of the 200 Freestyle Relay, 400 Freestyle Relay, 800 Freestyle Relay, 200 Medley Relay and 400 Medley Relay teams.
