Bears fall at Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The College at Brockport defeated both SUNY Potsdam swimming and diving teams on Saturday afternoon. The Bears men bowed 152-131 and the women fell 193-67.
 
Freshman Elliott Borden (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst) was one of several Bears to finish with solo victories in today's meet. He took first place finishes in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 11:13.92 and the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:31.78. Sophomore Ryan Orcutt (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) recorded first place finishes in the 100 Freestyle (49.05) and 200 Freestyle  (1:49.37) Orcutt then teamed with graduate student captain Jake McCormack (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Poughkeepsie), senior captain Daniel Russotti (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas), and freshman Calvin Hitzsche (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) for a first-place finish in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:44.62. Hitzsche teamed with Orcutt, McCormack, and graduate student captain Brett Worden (Croghan, N.Y./Beaver River) for a first-place victory in the 400 Freestyle Relay (3:31.47). Hitzsche also posted second place finishes in the 50 Freestyle (23.79) and 100 Butterfly (59.24). Russotti claimed second-place finishes in the 100 Breaststroke (1:02.75) and 200 Breaststroke (2:24.85). McCormack was first in the 100 Backstroke (57.37) and 200 Backstroke (2:05.48). Worden rounds out the men's individual finishes with a first-place finish in the 200 Butterfly (2:10.37) and a second-place finish in the 400 IM (4:45.16).
 
Freshman Sierra Jackel (Spencerport, N.Y./Spencerport) claimed second place finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions with scores of 221.77 and 214.05, respectively. Senior captain Sophia Frenyea (Johnstown, N.Y./Johnstown) registered a second-place finish in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 6:08.40. Freshman Meghan MacEntee (New Paltz, N.Y./Wallkill) was second in the 200 Breaststroke (2:55.56) and freshman Katie Nelson (Riverside, R.I./St. Mary Academy – Bay View) placed second in the 1000 Freestyle (13:04.40) and 100 Butterfly (1:15.54). The team of sophomore Sasha Truax (New Lebanon, N.Y./New Lebanon), MacEntee, sophomore Alexis Hartmann (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East), and Frenyea took a second-place finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 4:26.05.
 
The Bears are back in action next weekend when they host the North Country Invitational starting on Friday, Nov. 18, at 4 p.m.
