George Brown was a key member of the mid-1960’s Dr, Lou LaGrand-coached Potsdam College basketball powerhouses. A three-year varsity member, Brown was co-captain his senior year, was named to the All-SUNYAC first team and led the SUNYAC in scoring for the 1965-66 season. During that same year, he led Potsdam to the SUNYAC Championship and their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.

Brown still holds the Potsdam school record for the best free throw percentage in a season, shooting 88.5 percent from the line in 1965-66. He earned a degree from Potsdam in elementary education and was a charter member of the Sigma Tau Beta fraternity.

He has held various educational positions during his professional career and currently is the Scotia-Glenville District Director of Special Services. Brown was involved in numerous civic and community activities, including Boy Scouts of America, Time Out Club (service club for students and adults for minorities and disadvantaged), Adirondack Council, Parent Teachers Association and New York State Council of Pupil Personnel Development. Brown has also been active in the Elks Club and the Scotia Special Education Parent Teachers Association.

Potsdam College is honored to induct George Brown into its Sports Hall of Fame.
