Last in a long line of All-American wrestlers for SUNY Potsdam, Michael Price’s singular success on the mats of Maxcy Hall has translated into an equally successful life for himself and his family after college.

The wrestler on the mat stands alone against his opponent, toiling for the good of the team. It was a responsibility and challenge that Price relished and excelled at as a Potsdam grappler.

Price, who came to Potsdam after a very successful high school career, posted a 7-5 record as a freshman in the 1982-83 season.

In his sophomore year, Price finished with a 14-10-1 record over the very competitive and grueling schedule the Bears maintained. It was also the first of three straight years he would place at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships.

The 1984-85 season, Price’s junior year, would be his break-through season, and he chose the NCAA Tournament to announce it to the world. After qualifying for the tournament at the SUNYACs, he wrestled even better at the NCAAs and earned All- American status by placing in the top eight in the country. He capped the year with a 19-15 record.

His senior year was his best from a winning percentage standpoint. Price posted a 23-9-1 mark and finished his career with a 63-39-1 record. He won the R.I.T Invitational, was second at the SUNYACs and third at states his final season.

After earning a degree in English in 1986, Price went on to work toward a master’s degree in environmental engineering. After working for a number of firms, he began his own company in Sterling, Va.

As president of MAP Environmental Services, Price provides companies with consulting services, training programs and surveys to help them determine their indoor air and general environmental needs.
