Having worked with the men’s basketball program at SUNY Potsdam for over 33 years, Stan Cohen is the longest-tenured person on the Bears’ coaching staff. Cohen, who first began working with Coach Welsh in 1971, continues today as an assistant coach for Sherry Dobbs. Cohen has been with the Bears during two national championships, the program’s 60-game wining streak, six SUNYAC Tournament championships and numerous NCAA Division III Tournament appearances. The Bears had a total of eight players named All-America during Cohen’s watch.
    
Coach Cohen is a graduate of Hobart College, where he lettered in both lacrosse and basketball. He also holds a master’s from Syracuse University. Upon graduating from Hobart in 1956, Cohen was employed at SUNY Canton as the men’s basketball coach and accounting instructor. As Canton’s men’s coach he tallied a 247-143 record. Prior to his 1995 retirement from the college as a Professor Emeritus, he also served as physical education instructor, department chair and Athletic Director. Cohen and his wife, Rosalyn, reside in Canton. They have four children – Laurie, Hal, Carrie and Amy – as well as nine grandchildren.
