When former Potsdam hockey coach John Horan learned that Denis and Pierre  Marcoux were to attend Potsdam, he knew he had two good recruits, but little did he know that the Marcoux brothers would bring skill, class and national prominence to Potsdam hockey program.

Denis and Pierre Marcoux played hockey at Potsdam from 1981-84. The brothers were perennial first team all-stars for three consecutive seasons. Today, the brothers are among the top five scorers in Bears history.

Considered by many the cornerstones of Potsdam hockey, the Marcoux brothers played with a style and a class of their own.

During their first year at SUNY Potsdam, the Marcoux brothers elevated Potsdam hockey from a 6-18 season to their first-ever appearance in ECAC postseason play. Later that season, Denis was named ECAC Rookie of the Year.

After Potsdam, the brothers returned to their native Canada to finish out their college careers, and Denis was given a tryout with the Montreal Canadians Organization. He then played professional hockey in Europe for several years.

The Marcoux brothers are still actively involved with the game that they came to love. Pierre continues to play competitive hockey with his brother Yves, and Denis is passing on his knowledge as coach of novice ‘A’ and midget ‘AA’ teams.

The Marcoux brothers reside with their families in Quebec.
