Striving to be the best sums up the attitude of Antonio Peraza, the premier wrestler in Potsdam history and one of the most decorated champs in SUNYAC wrestling history.

Tony believed in giving it his best shot, whether in academics or athletics. His first priority was to get a good education. And he did. Tony was a 3.0 student as a biology major. His academic and athletic prowess earned him the 1976 Maxcy-Molnar Award for excellence.

Peraza was a two-time All-American, winning the NCAA Division III title in 1976 after finishing as a national runner-up the year before. He was a two-time SUNYAC champ and placed second twice. His other accomplishments include two New York State titles and four Northern New York State trophies. He compiled a four-year record of 96-19.

After leaving Potsdam, Peraza coached at Ithaca College and Cortland High. Presently, he teaches in Middle Island, N.Y., and has been the varsity wrestling coach at Commack North Senior High the past two years.

Potsdam College is proud to induct Antonio Peraza into its Athletic Hall of Fame.
