Michael Spencer, who graduated in 1979, was named an All-American swimmer in both 1976 and 1978. He also received the SUNYAC’s Auburn Award in 1979. Spencer was a four-time conference champion in the 100-yard butterfly.
After earning a degree in computer science, Spencer held several programming and IT positions before joining Red Hat Corp in Raleigh, N.C., where he works to this day. Active in competitive swimming, Spencer was a NYS swim official in the Binghamton area before joining the Raleigh Area Masters in 2008. He and his wife, Dorothy (’79), have three children – Paul, Ericka and Jonathan.
