Bio from Induction

“Richie” graduated in 1965 with many of the basketball all-college scoring records. His 367 points in the 1964-65 season were most in a season and his 1158 career points was the highest. He was the first player to score more than 1,000 points in his career. He was a member of the first Potsdam team to win the SUNYAC Championship (1963-64).

He currently is third on the all-time scoring list and still holds the record for most free throws in a season (155). Richie also played third base for the baseball team during college.

Since graduating, Richie has been making a name for himself in his chosen career, teaching mathematics. After two years at Island Trees Junior High, he moved to the Hauppague School System and has been there ever since. He taught High-School math, became Chairman of secondary math, and is now District Manager of math.

Richie holds Master Degrees in two institutions: M.S. in Mathematics from Hofstra College and a M.A. in Secondary School Administration from Columbia University. He has served as a math consultant on several accrediting teams that evaluate high school curriculums. He is sole author of a series of five manuals for teaching mathematics in secondary school.

He married Arlene (1965) shortly after graduation. The couple have four children: Richard, Carrie, Katie, and Amy.
