Hall of Fame
Robert Johnston was a winner.
There’s no other way to describe Johnston, who graduated from Potsdam College in 1972 with a career wrestling record of 33-1-5. He finished second in the State University of New York Athletic Conference Tournament three times and earned All-American honors by taking fifth place in the 1972 College Division NCAA Tournament.
Johnston was team captain his senior year and was named Potsdam’s best all-around wrestler both his junior and senior seasons. He was the squad’s most improved wrestler as a sophomore and won the most aggressive award three times.
Johnston earned the Maxcy–Molnar Award in 1972, given annually to the outstanding senior male and female athletes at Potsdam College. It is the athletic department’s highest honor.
While no longer a wrestler, Johnston is still a fine athlete. He competes in basketball and road racing, having recently run his first marathon.
It is an honor for Potsdam College to induct Robert Johnston into the Sports Hall of Fame.
